Checking in with God is True Self-Care (Emotionally Immature People – Part 3)

June 22, 2023 by Aliene

Tending to Your Heart God’s Way

If you have been listening to our past episodes on emotionally immature people and how they impact your life, you might think, where is a good place to start to heal?

The roadmap to recovery begins by trading the pushing down of heavy emotions, for processing those emotions with God. The problem is, if you have been with an emotionally immature person, you have neglected your feelings to manage theirs for so long —

-you don’t even know where to begin

-it’s a challenge to find words to describe your emotions

-your heart might feel numb

-you don’t trust your feelings at all

And you might even say, didn’t the Bible tell me my feelings could not be trusted? The truth is all your feelings, including anger, are like an engine light to your soul, calling you to come to the Father and find the truth so you can gain traction to move on. If you don’t believe me, open up the Bible to the book of Psalms or Jeremiah, and you’ll see God’s saints pouring their hearts out to God, not hiding how they feel.

And when you bring your emotions to God instead of burying them…

-you begin to awaken your heart

-you can communicate your needs more effectively with others and God

-you can respond vs. react to the demands of others, so that you can live with God at the center

Pausing to process with God is what Dr. Holly Spotts calls checking-in vs checking out. In today’s message, Dr. Holly Spotts is going to give us a step-by-step guide to check-in with God, find truth and live treasured.

It’s time to tell your heart to beat again. Listen to today’s message and begin your journey.

The Emotionally Immature Parent or Spouse (Emotionally Immature People – Part 2)

June 8, 2023 by Aliene

The Impact of An Emotionally Immature Person with Dr. Holly Spotts

I’ve got an important question for you. Do you pray boldly for others, but when it comes to asking God for your needs, you are shy, even though our Lord repeatedly invites us in his Word to come to him to ask for what we need? (Luke 11:11-13) Having an emotionally immature parent could be why you are timid about taking YOUR needs to God.

Children of emotionally immature parents often are self-reliant codependents and extreme caretakers. As they neglect their needs, sadly, codependents might even spiritualize their actions, reasoning they are putting others first – and then wonder why they are so resentful when our Lord said we would experience joy in serving him and others.

The truth is your past created a pattern of putting a parent, not the Lord, in the center of your life. Because that person held a “role,” your childhood mind reasoned that they were right, and your needs were wrong. And so you became used to ignoring your needs and brought this coping pattern into your relationship with your Abba Father, God Almighty.

But the Lord invites you to leave that pattern, put Him at the center, and bring your needs to Him in prayer! As you rely on the Lord and rest in his love, you can love others as He intended.

When someone uses their family role to demand that you center your life around theirs, it’s not biblical; it’s manipulation. Recognizing this is crucial, especially if you have codependent tendencies, because God wants you to put him first, and no other person can claim that role.

Want more? Listen to today’s message and get ready to find traction for a new direction as Dr. Holly Spotts gives insight into the impact of emotionally immature parents or spouses. Here’s to your NEW pattern of putting God in the center to live and love as He intended.

What is An Emotionally Immature Person? (Emotionally Immature People – Part 1)

May 25, 2023 by Aliene

The Impact of Emotionally Immature People with Dr. Holly Spotts

Walking on eggshells around others pushes you to hide who God created you to be. Sometimes this pressure to pretend is caused by an emotionally immature person demanding that you orbit your life around theirs. And when this happens…

You can trade self-compassion for self-deprecation

Dysfunctional coping patterns emerge, including codependency

Identifying your unique God-given identity is difficult to grasp

But this is not God’s Way. He wants to be first in your life; the real you will shine out of that relationship. Freedom to come out of hiding to live as God intended begins with awareness of emotionally immature people. For these reasons, I’ve invited clinical psychologist Dr. Holly Spotts of Full Cup Wellness to educate us on emotionally immature people.

In today’s message, here is what you’ll discover:

  • What an emotionally immature person is, and why this matters.
  • How awareness can awaken your heart to become who God created you to be.
  • How to spot an emotionally immature person and why they might draw you into an unhealthy relationship.

Emotionally immature people often blame you for being selfish when your life does not orbit their world. It’s time to put God back in the center and live with the joy that flows from putting Him first and becoming who He created you to be. So listen to today’s message and let your light shine.

Freedom From the Need of Approval

May 11, 2023 by Aliene

Biblical Justification Ends Judgement

Like an addictive drug, needing approval leaves us bound to others in an unhealthy way and your soul sucked dry. I know this… I’ve been there.

Codependents crave approval from others. Often this need breaks us with its impossible demands. But no matter what we try or what books we might read on the topic, we can’t seem to separate our hearts from this draw.

I’ve got good news, God’s solution is superior and will set you free for good.

Here’s to your freedom! ONWARD!

Reasoning Will Wear You Out

April 24, 2023 by Aliene

What Does the Bible Say About Making Decisions?

                        ,

Are you in the middle of making a significant decision, worn out from reasoning but worried about making the right decision? Today’s message is just for you.

Life can become confusing and blurry when we navigate our lives using people and things outside of us. As codependents, we have relied on people and our own reasoning and as a result became weary, worn out, and often headed in the wrong direction. But when we rest under God’s reign, everything changes. This new way of living happens through a relationship with God, not religion.

I am in awe of football quarterbacks. Not because of how far they can throw that leather ball with just the right spin to sail through the air into the endzone, but because they can make split-second decisions while facing muscled sack-hungry men plowing toward them. If I were in their shoes, I would shout “excuse me—wait a minute—everyone stop—I need to think. Can we stop playing? I don’t want to make a mistake!” We all know what the sad result of that would be.

But quarterbacks have a different strategy. They take a quick look at their coach before a play and find decisive direction from their seasoned leader’s overall perspective, a perspective that is impossible for them to possess in their nearby position on the field.

In the game of life in our broken world, as we face epic battles, like quarterbacks, we must make many decisions while opposing onslaughts from the enemy, world, and our flesh come our way. When this happens, if you reason and reason, you can get stuck and potentially sacked instead of experiencing the fruit that flows from following the Holy Spirit.

God wired you for daily reliance.

Reasoning will wear you out! But wise women brave this broken world by redirecting reasoning to rely on the Holy Spirit and find rest through God’s divine direction. Listen into today’s message for more and walk with divine discernment in a new direction.

Self-Reliance Sabotages God’s Power

April 13, 2023 by Aliene

How Does Self-Reliance Sabotage God’s Power?

Hello beautiful,

Can I encourage you today?

Sometimes we can become impatient and frustrated in our inner healing journey, because the enemy shames us into thinking we are not where we need to be. Codependents are prime targets for this lie because we are the self-reliant souls that like to get things done.

But God’s ways are different. Sanctification is through his power in his timing and not our strength or schedule.

In our latest message, discover how self-reliance can sabotage God’s power in your life.

Biblical Confidence to Say No

March 30, 2023 by Aliene

How to Stop People Pleasing

Hi friend,

Let’s face it. Saying no to people is difficult – especially if you are codependent. God wired us to take on responsibility he has asked us to carry, but often codependents say yes to obligations that are not ours.

And when we can’t say no

We carry the emotional weight that brings anxiety

We end our days feeling weary and worn out

We miss out on what matters most

We feel resentful instead of fulfilled

But worst of all, when we can’t say no to people, we can’t say yes to God. The Bible is clear. You cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). It’s impossible! In the past, I even spiritualized my yes, reasoning that living worn out was God’s will. But it wasn’t.

Everything changed when I found the confidence to say no by putting God first.

I could put God first and fill my cup

I could live inside my limits and feel satisfied

I found margin for the people in my life that mattered.

I lived under the blessing of pleasing the Spirit, instead of pleasing people.

Not every good work is God’s work for you.

In today’s message, find biblical confidence to say no to others so you can say yes to God with a teaching message from Galatians chapter six!

ONWARD!

March 14, 2023 by Aliene

What Does the Bible Say About Unhealthy Relationships?

God-fidence is the result of daily God-dependency and ensures our confident victory. Even after salvation we can surrender our freedom. One way we can do this is to become enmeshed in an unhealthy narcissistic relationship. This is why we did a whole series on this topic. Today I share four “ah ha moments” from the series. Listen, get the wisdom, and guard your heart so you can walk away from unhealthy relationships and live in God dependency.
