What is Emotional Abuse? – with Leslie Vernick

November 22, 2023 by Brooke Wessel

What does the Bible say about emotional abuse?

Listen to the podcast or watch on YouTube.

Hello ,

Emotional abuse is often diminished or dismissed for many reasons – even in the church. When this happens, the lack of validation can feel confusing and powerless for the victim, but this is not God’s way.

At Treasured Ministries, we believe God calls the church to be a resource, not a roadblock, for victims of emotional abuse. Our vision is to see a world where every woman is free to live the life that God intended for her.

After all, every woman is precious and holds immeasurable value in the eyes of the Lord.

Today, we welcome Leslie Vernick, author of “The Emotionally Destructive Marriage” and “The Emotionally Destructive Relationship,” to discuss emotional abuse. Listen to today’s message and discover the answers to these questions.

What is emotional abuse?

How does emotional abuse impact our lives physically, spiritually, and mentally?

How can abuse lead to codependency?

What are the first steps to heal?

God does not condone any form of abuse.

Listen to today’s teaching lesson, pass it on to others to bring awareness to emotional abuse and let’s see freedom for every woman.

With Love,

Aliene

Hope After Loss

November 14, 2023 by Brooke Wessel

How To Find Confidence After Loss

Hello friend,

Losing means starting over again. It takes courage to see a blank canvas with hope. But as God’s child, life always follows loss.

Jesus is our Kinsman Redeemer. He watches over his word to perform it. He is the ultimate promise keeper… The problem is that faith can fade when faced with loss and trauma.

Have you lost your hope and confidence?

Life brings burdens; those burdens cannot break you when you fix your eyes on Jesus. There you will find hope to remain undaunted to see your redemption.

You cannot change your past, but you can ask your Abba Father for a step of faith today to change your tomorrow.

In today’s message on Ruth, we will gain biblical steps of faith to go towards your new beginning.  You’ll find that small steps will lead to larger ones and create a pathway to your next chapter. Just like Naomi and Ruth, you too have a Kinsman Redeemer who is far greater than any Boaz and will bring you into a living hope.

“Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.”

Psalm 126:5–6 NLT

Your new chapter is right around the corner.

ONWARD!

What is a Victim Mentality?

November 7, 2023 by Brooke Wessel

What Does the Bible Say About a Victim Mentality?

Hello friend,

There was a time when my repeated loss and trauma had polluted my perspective, shoving a victim lens over my eyes. My victim viewpoint was not only the filter through which I made decisions—it had become my identity.

But everything changed when God came for my heart. I saw the truth. I stopped resisting God and I resisted the enemy instead. BOOM!

While our losses may look different, they always leave tender voids that impact how we live. The enemy loves to capitalize on our loss and sow lies in our hearts. Lies about ourselves and God, to disrupt our intimacy with the Lord. So that we resist receiving His help instead of resisting the enemy.

But the truth of God is FOR YOU. You are not left holding this loss alone! Find a mustard seed of faith to plant. From there you will experience life lifted out of the ashes of your past through Jesus, your Kinsman Redeemer!

In today’s message, we will answer these questions:

  • What is a victim mentality?
  • Where does this come from?
  • What other ways can the enemy create a mindset to sabotage your healing?

God can bring light to expose those dark lies and ignite hope. By walking in faith through His Word one day at a time, we will have a new perspective for beginning again. Loss is temporary, but the Word of the Lord is eternal and has the creative power to bring new life. To God be the glory!

You can start that journey today. Listen to today’s message, part two, from chapter one of the book of Ruth.

It’s time for your new chapter!

ONWARD!

Aliene

Redemption

October 31, 2023 by Brooke Wessel

Codependency and Grieving Loss

Hello there beautiful soul,

While all loss is difficult; loss as the result of someone going outside of God’s design to meet their needs to the detriment of yours, is devastating. This is because when you are left holding the consequences of someone else’s choices – the loss is compounded.

And the damage that gets dumped into your lap is not fair…

You didn’t ask for these empty hands.

You didn’t deserve the loss.

And now you feel vulnerable, powerless, and insecure.

While it’s unfair, God stands ready to restore the loss so you can move forward. But you must take his hand. For God, not the person who caused the loss, is the healer. You are a child of God and loss is never the end of your story. Jesus is your Kinsman redeemer; his restoration goes beyond what you could have imagined.

Today, we begin a three-part series on God’s restoration from the first chapter of Ruth. Naomi loved deeply and lost greatly but eventually found hope and saw a harvest of restoration.

And with God’s help, you can find hope and see restoration as well.

So listen to today’s message, discover the first courageous choice to begin redemption, and prepare to heal and move forward.

ONWARD!

Love,

Aliene

Irrational Thoughts

October 24, 2023 by Brooke Wessel

How Do I Stop Irrational Thought?

Hi there,

Today was a hard-hitting, yucky thought day. Worry and fear danced in my mind as my inner dialog grew irrational; attacking me with aggressive arrows of lies related to a past hurt.

The enemy went after healed ground.

My shield of faith felt too heavy to lift against those attacking arrows.

It’s hard enough to deal with irrational thoughts. When you feel discouraged for having those thoughts in the first place, this secondary struggle just adds insult to injury.  I was feeling defeated, insecure, and downright frustrated.

I then recalled a powerful truth a mentor once shared with me that fanned the smoldering ember of my faith into a burning flame. “The power of the cross breaks every chain that the enemy attempts to wrap around your thoughts.” You see, the enemy of your soul is not creative. He is the opposite of our Creator. So when we are reminded of past hurts, it is only Satan up to the same old tricks he has been using since the garden.

Is the enemy attacking your thoughts? He is playing those games because he knows the God-given potential you hold.

In today’s message, find what you need for faith-filled thoughts that will lead to a life of purpose and freedom.

Ready? Let’s go! Treasured Ministries is on this journey with you—every bold, beautiful, brave step at a time.

ONWARD,

Aliene

What Does It Mean To Forgive? (Episode 10: Moving On)

August 23, 2022 by Aliene

How to Move Forward When a Relationship is Still Not Right

Guess what? All your relationships will not be neat and tidy – and that is ok. Taking all the steps to forgive someone does not guarantee a restored relationship. And that is also ok!

But for years, I felt like I needed a happy ending to experience life and peace. I allowed the state of my relationships to determine my worth and identity. I was constantly trying to fix and control things to avoid the message that messy relationships sent to my heart, with an internal narrative ‘there must be something wrong with you, Aliene.’ And often, I sacrificed my worth trusting in an offender who was never sorry – not because I was such a super spiritual Christian – but because I wanted so much to belong.

Are you tempted to offer premature reconciliation to stop rejection’s sting? Is a broken relationship holding you back from becoming all God has created you to be? Have you done your part to forgive, but it’s still messy?

YOU CAN’T FIX PEOPLE. IT’S TIME TO MOVE ON!

When our relationships are messy, we can feel messy, and shame shuts down our hearts from going confidently before the Lord and asking for the help we truly need. God’s remedy to remove shame so you can run to him, release the mess, and seek the Holy Spirit’s help to move forward, is receiving God’s forgiveness.

The happy ending your heart desires is not found in fixing others, but by forgiving others, and fixing your eyes on Jesus to move forward one beautiful bold, brave step of faith at a time. Listen to today’s podcast to discover how to let go and move on!
