Finding Freedom From Fear in an Insecure World
The world is uncertain. Jesus told us that we would have trouble in this world. He followed this with a command for us to take courage inside our insecure world “take heart for I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Our King remains on the throne. Take heart, treasured one! Take your courage, do not let the threat of darkness in our world push you to throw it away (Hebrews 10:35).
Draw a line in the sand against the enemy, “We will not let evil win.”
Praying God’s Word: Take Your Authority Against the Enemy
Inside that same passage of scripture in John 16, Jesus reminded his disciples to pray in his name (John 16:23-24). There is nothing more powerful than praying God’s Word. While the world is uncertain, God’s Word stands forever.
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40:8)
In the parable of the persistent widow, Jesus reminds his disciples to “always pray and never give up” (Luke 18:1). Jesus tells the story of a woman – a widow who was relentless with her cry for justice to an unrighteous judge.
And against all odds, because a woman was persistent, justice prevailed.
At the end of the parable, Jesus says:
“Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”(Luke 18:6-8, emphasis mine)
