May 31, 2022 by Aliene

Practical Ways to Boost Your Mental Health

Too often we tend to prioritize our physical health and well-being, but we put our mental health on the back burner. And it can be easy to neglect our mental health because it isn’t always evident on the outside like when we have physical ailments.

Well, in today’s episode we are wrapping our mental health series and are talking about ways to boost your mental health, so that you can nurture your mind as well as your body! My guest Hannah Dodson and I have both walked through seasons where we have struggled with our mental health, and we are passionate about educating ourselves on ways we can continue to improve and boost our mental health. Self-Care Strategies with Dr. Holly Spotts

May 24, 2022 by Aliene

How to Pour Out to Others From a Full Cup

For years I lived out of frustration instead of fullness – because my codependency told me it was not ok to rest. I actually felt shame and religious guilt about self-care. All my people-pleasing left me worn out, resentful, and sadly NOT loving others as God intended. Agape love is not something we can manufacture; we must receive it from our Maker to be able to give REAL love to others. Pausing to rest is a part of this process. Self-care is not only biblical and beneficial for our mental health, but it also allows us to live a more selfless life. Clinical psychologist Dr. Holly Spotts specializes in therapy for women who are over-functioning, anxious, and people-pleasing. In the Live Treasured Podcast last week, Dr. Spotts shared five barriers to self-care. Join me today for part two and discover three practical steps you can take to overcome these five barriers. Ready to pour out to others from a full cup and live with joy and love as God intended? Join us!

Dr. Holly Spotts, a Clinical Psychologist, is the owner and founder of Full Cup Wellness, an entirely virtual private practice serving women in California, Mississippi, and Florida. Specializing in women’s mental health, Dr. Holly Spotts helps women discover their authentic selves and create deeply fulfilling lives they love.

Five Barriers to Self-Care with Dr. Holly Spotts

May 17, 2022 by Aliene

Opening Up the Gift of Genuine Rest

Someone may have told you that self-care is selfish or not biblical– but that’s not true. You might think as I did, that self-care is a bubble bath, but real self-care goes deeper than just an event. God rested on the 7th day after creation. He wove a day of rest into the weekly rhythm of life inside the 10 commandments by commanding a Sabbath day of rest. He called this rest – a gift. ANY gift God gives us, like joy or peace or rest – the enemy loves to steal with his lies that create barriers to God’s blessing. But when you shed light on those barriers and become aware of those lies, they lose their power, and you can begin to live as God intended. For these reasons, we’ve invited Dr. Holly Spotts, a clinical psychologist specializing in women’s mental health, to be our guest today on the Live Treasured Podcast. Listen to today’s podcast, and discover five barriers to self-care, defeat the enemy and pour out to others from a full cup.

How to Raise Mentally Healthy Kids

If your child is struggling with their mental health, you are not alone. Sadly many women feel this way because of shame produced by mental health stigmas – especially inside the church. For these reasons, I invited Michelle Nietert to be our podcast guest during our May Mental Health Podcast Series. Develop God-dependency to Release Codependency

April 26, 2022 by Aliene

Awaken Childlike Faith to Experience Freedom

How would you describe your childhood? The broken world invades the early years of innocence for many women because of trauma or caretakers that could not nurture as God intended. Dependency was not safe, so we traded our carefree childhood for self-reliance. While necessary for survival, the self-reliant mindset can often sabotage your present abundant life with God. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” (Luke 18:17) Listen to today’s podcast and discover the baby steps of faith you can take today to change your tomorrow.

Inner Vows Interrupt Freedom

April 19, 2022 by Aliene

How to Live By Truth Instead of Past Trauma

Trauma in life can seal inner vows that interrupt our freedom. When past limits become inner vows, we have chosen them instead of our Lord to lead us. We have placed ourselves instead of Christ in the driver’s seat. But, security comes not from a strict regimen I keep, but from a Redeemer I determine to follow. 1 Corinthians 5:7 says, “Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.” This year for Passover, I am taking inventory of any inner vows to be released to walk in new life. Listen to today’s podcast and discover how God’s promises preached through the gospel propel us into the new life God redeemed us to live. ONWARD! Let’s do this!

Scripture to Accompany Your Weekly Devotional: Unexpected King

April 14, 2022 by Aliene

Mark 8:27-38

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”

Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Mark 9: 1-13

And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.”

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
