Back to Course: 21-Day Challenge

Day 8

Instructor: Aliene Thompson

Class Notes

Sometimes when I am learning something new, I get stuck in a learning mode and don’t try to apply what I am learning because I feel as if I can’t put myself out there until I get things perfect.

Can you relate?

I reason, if I don’t put myself out there, I cannot fail! When you feel that way as you move forward with this new Bible study process, a good friend will take you by the hand and say, “You’ve got this. Let’s do this together.”

Today I am pushing you out there, treasured one, so you can encounter the life-changing effects of God’s Word written on your heart as you spend time with him.

Promise me three things:

  1. While learning the Nourish Method, you must shift your mind-set to recognize the journey as a process and not focus on attaining perfection so you can step out there and put pen to paper.
  2. You must redefine success as spending time with Jesus rather than completing the lesson or understanding every passage or being concerned about how much you write on a page.
  3. You must remember your role. You are the receiver. God is the revealer. Your goal at this point in the process is to practice for ten minutes and then stop.

Cheering you on as you begin! Onward!

Today’s Assignment

Take ten minutes to put what you’ve learned into practice by applying Reveal. the first step of the Nourish Method, to Ephesians 1:1-11.

As you pray, begin to journal in the 21-Day Challenge notebook pages (you will find space to the right of days 7 and 8). Take just ten minutes.

Think of today as just getting your feet wet – you’ll wade deeper into the waters next week. By all means, if you want to spend more time on this step, go for it!

If you would like to discover more about how to use outside resources, you can watch the Outside Resources video.

Remember, you can always come back later when you have more time to learn more about outside resources.

Today’s Connect Question

Describe something that jumped out to you as you journal your thoughts from Ephesians 1:1-11. What verse captured your attention? What was new or interesting to you?

Day 7

Verse 7 stood out for me. Lavishes his riches on me. I also saw verse 4 as he chose me. and verse 8 and 9 that he will reveal his knowledge to me. It is very humbling to know he chose me before I was even formed and loves me. That he wants to lavishly give me things and wants me to know him better.

I prayed verses 3and4 lighted my heart with joy in Christ Jesus. How awesome Daddy ABBA blessed me with every spiritual blessing in Christ. He loves me so very much. Thank You ABBA Daddy! How awesome to know God chose my in His awesome love from before the foundation of the world in Christ Jesus I love You Daddy.

The descriptive words in the passage for God’s love and blessings on those born again stuck out most to me: Words like lavished, richness, beloved, and glorious. Verse 7 resonated the most which said that since I am redeemed in the blood I am forgiven through His rich grace that He covers me with GENEROUSLY!

I’m quite a few days behind. I was gone at our cabin and there is no reception there ?. I wish this study had a book as well.
I love the 3 combo’s: Pray, Journal and Discovery.
Over the years, I have lavished on the verse Eph 1:5 that says: he predestined us for adoption to himself… Before I became a believer, I was a messed up kid all thu my life because I was adopted and wanted to know my bio family. I became resentful and jealous. When I learned about these verses, God had set me FREE from the sins/bondage of resentments and jealousy. I now belong to an amazing family of God!
Eph 1:1-11 captivates me, reminds me that I am His beloved and in Him, I have obtained an inheritance of the kingdom, Salvation!

Yes, I am His daughter. I love this as well. I have been meditating on Romans 8:15 lately and it has really been comforting to me. “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” I am adopted as His daugher and I can call Him my “Abba” or Daddy.

I am to be blameless and holy in His sight. Not just when there are others are around , but in His sight. Even when I’m alone, I’m in His sight.

I’m struck by by how Inclusive our God and Father is. I circled the word in, 14 times, in these 11 verses. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that he adopted me according to the kind intentions of his will, before the foundations of the world; in love! He chose me, he picked us out for himself.? I’ve never been picked in love like that in this world.

This is precious Kathy!! ? It is overwhelming when we stop to realize and focus on the magnitude of His love for us. We cannot help but be grateful!!

I love the way Paul starts off his message with praise to God in verse 3. The Holy Spirit has been impressing upon me lately the significance of starting all things with praise to Him. It has a way of shifting my focus and preparing my heart and mind for what God wants to speak to me.

This week at work we had to identify qualities we admired in someone we saw as a leader. One of those I highlighted that I wanted to work on was “gracious.” When I came back to my bible study, GRACE was practically jumping off the page at me. God’s grace is greater than all my sins (singing the tune.)

This entire passage of verses is awesome and packed full!!.
2 verses popped off the page
1:4 – knowing we were chosen In Christ before he even made the world…..and we are to be holy and without fault?
1:7 – I used the NLT “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his son and forgave our sins.” Meditating on these words and the incredible gift we have in God is hard to get your heads rapped around.
Both verses verses are filled with the truth of God’s character and what he wants for us…….theses words I wrote down and will dig deeper on—> Holy, Love, Peace, Grace, Forgiveness.

I love that Aliene said when going to outside resources we want to make sure this is NOT taking the focus off of an intimate connection with Jesus being our goal.

Using the Nourish method with Ephesians today was great. It really re-emphasized the notes in my Bible. I am a daughter of God. I was chosen. God gives us grace and mercy. I have to abide in Him. I have to trust Him and live according to His will for my life. Abide is my word for 2020. It has been echoed many times throughout my journey, since the first of the year when He gave it to me. He again reiterates abiding in Him in Ephesians. Living in Christ, gives me the blessings in the spiritual realm. He loves me, He protects me (Eph 6) and most importantly He encourages me to abide in Him. It is so awesome to know He had a plan of salvation even before He created the world. I, you, we ARE chosen! We are the daughter’s of the Lord above! How amazing to have a father that loves us beyond our comprehension. The joy and peace that brings into my life, has been amazing and a blessing.

Day 8. Spending that time in Eph 1 was amazing!! I used the Passion Translation and the NIV, but what jumped out to me was in the Passion Translation—verses 8-10. HIS grace gives us wisdom and understanding. How amazing is that?! Through Jesus we can see God’s hand and plan in our lives. And it’s all part of the plan that will be ultimately fulfilled when He returns and makes all things new. Hallelujah! Glory be to God!

I think verse 6 stood out for me. That we belong to Jesus, accepted in the beloved. To belong means 1. To be in a relationship of a member 2.To have proper qualifications, 3. Be appropriately placed. We belong to him and we are unstained and innocent in his eyes. Kind of like in a marriage or with are children. They belong to us, we care for them, they are very valuable. Wether they were born to us, or they were adopted into the family, or we are in covenant marriage. Wow this is so cool, I got on a word study of belong. We belong to him first!

Thank you for sharing you word study. I love that belong means to have proper qualifications. The proper qualification that we have is Christ’s blood. Because of Christ’s death we are qualified to belong to God, to be adopted into His family!!! In fact, not only is this the proper qualification, it is the ONE qualification.
